Yes the ceiling fan remote control module may be faulty. I called hunter and they sent a new controller for ceiling fan i installed that and light would still not work. I installed a remote controlled ceiling fan several years ago. Should it become necessary to re sync the remote turn off the main power then turn it back on.

You also have to ensure that the batteries are in their right position. If the ceiling fan and light works normally then the remote control module will need to be replaced. If you are use a remote control to start your fan check your batteries and have them replaced. It worked great until recently now the light and the fan will not turn on.

Turn off the ceiling fan using the remote wait for about 30 seconds before turning the power on within those seconds hold down the off button on the fan for about ten seconds the steps should allow you to perform a reset. Within 30 seconds use a small screwdriver to press and hold the learn button on the remote for 3 seconds. Clean and lubricate the ball bearings. The fan will turn on and light if applicable will blink three times signaling a successful synchronization.

As strange as it sounds your ceiling fan could have stopped working because there is a problem with the remote control. One way to know for sure would be to remove the receiver module at the ceiling fan and wire it direct.
